In response to a rise in drug deaths involving gabapentin, some states—including Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia—are adding the medication to controlled substance rosters. Gabapentin is not currently a federally scheduled drug, and it doesn't appear on New York's roster.

New York's schedules of controlled substances can be found in Section 3306 of the Public Health Law.  Access to the text of this law, as well as a list of any recent changes to the controlled substances list, can be found at https://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/narcotic/laws_and_regulations/
